Into the JATland

During the past few years, marriages within ‘gotra’ (clan) of the Jat community have come into the limelight. Frequently, those couples who have eloped have been brutally murdered by the dictates of the elders—these are known as ‘honor killings’. Many such incidents have occurred in Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh and the rural belt of Delhi. I was in the Jatland of Jhajjar, a small town around 100 kms from Delhi. Around 80% of the honor killings reported are done in and around Jhajjar. I decided to know more about the place and their rituals and specifically about Khap. Khap Panchayats are basically found in two communities in Northern India, Jats and Gujjars. These communities were considered to be non-elite and basically were indulged in agriculture and herding. There used to be rule of Muslim rulers in area around Haryana and Delhi. So, a committee was developed in Jats community which used to solve local issues. So, several Khaps developed in Haryana for each village an

Gangs of Social Media

From the past few days, you will notice a lot of ads are being shown on TV, newspaper, hoardings of Congress party in which Rahul Gandhi is shown as the future leader of our country. Different people are discussing their experiences that how UPA has done a lot of work in past 10 years. Similar campaigns are also run by BJP team like “Chai par charcha” and “Namo 272+” campaign. A lot of buzz is being created on Social networking site and youngsters are invited to join the campaign. Election dates are not yet finalized and Election commission has no regulation for usage of money in the campaigns. So, all parties are utilizing this time to their fullest to showcase them as a better option. After dates will be finalized, Election commission will keep an eye for the campaigning cost of each aspirant. Only 50 lakhs are set as the upper limit that an aspirant can spend for the elections. It don’t seems a correct option when on one rally 5-6 crores are spent. One month back Hi

Decoding AAM AADMI PARTY !!

After Delhi assembly elections, AAP has emerged as a key opponent for Traditional parties like Congress and BJP. I am trying to find out why having its major presence in Delhi. We can’t consider it as a regional party and Do other parties need to fear from this new kid of Politics. To understand its future, we need to understand its past. It all started 3 years ago when various social activists of our country formed a team and drafted a bill against Corruption in the system. They included Kiran Bedi, Medha patekar, Arvind Kejriwal, Swami Angivesh, Prashant Bhushan and Anna Hazare. Anna Hazare, a social activist from Maharashtra was made face of this Anti-Corruption movement. He sat on Indefinite Hunger strike in Jantar Mantar, Delhi. He was demanding a strong law, Jan Lokpal to be passed against Corruption in the system. We saw huge crowds from across the country joining the protest. This protest brought government of India to its knees and we saw Prime Minister of India send

Are we Racist ??

While I was busy changing the channels of my television, a news headline got my attention. People from North-East were doing a Dharna on Jantar Mantar in Delhi against killing of a 19 year old boy Nido Taniam from Arunanchal Pradesh. They were demanding equal status for them in their own country. Suddenly there was a lot of buzz about it and every News channel and Political party want to catch this topic for their own benefits. We saw Narendra Modi giving his speech on Nido in North east. We saw Rahul Gandhi sharing the stage with Protestants, giving them hope that In India they will be treated equally and there was new star of Indian politics, Arvind Kejriwal consoling the victims. But is this all drama a reality, is the biggest question right now. Are Indians Racist? My Intellectual friends will say no, our democracy has given equal status to everyone and each of us are equal in our country. But seriously, I don’t think so. India is a developing country who is aiming the sk
